Doctoral Preparation Track: How to Apply for Fall of 2025
The problem is that even though our department is a world-class place to train, many students do not know how to take advantage of the opportunity.
One way to think about the problem is that you need a supportive network (or set of teams) that will help you consider and pursue your career goals.
Hopeful Stories
Here’s what it might look like for things to go well.
Our program might help you clarify a next step. Sebastian went to another program at Yale before deciding on the right doctoral program.
Wendy invested the two years in her masters program to get a huge head start on her doctoral research. She is now doing her internship at Vanderbilt University and will be a doctor soon.
Another successful outcome would be for you to realize you don’t need a doctoral degree to pursue your goals. That is a wonderful outcome, because you can go ahead and get on the right path.
You have some time before the formal application is due. If you already know you want to join a lab, go ahead and do it! The HAPPI lab has open meetings on Mondays at noon. Contact Dr. Davis (ddavis88@gsu.edu) if you’d like to join.
The application process is easy. In the Youtube Video, we go over the process, and you may also join an information session throughout the summer or fall. Again, just reach out to Dr. Davis.
Step 1: Complete a form to indicate your interest in more information
The first step is to let us know that you are interested in hearing more. We will send several emails throughout the summer and fall semesters, so completing this form ensures that you will get that information. The form also includes a spot for questions, and we have answers to FAQ here.
Step 2: Begin Exploring Potential Mentoring from a Faculty Member in the Department
Contact several faculty members and see if there is sufficient interest in supporting your professional goals in the program. The list of faculty is located here. Here is some specific information about faculty who have recently mentored students in the DPT.
Step 3: Join a HAPPI lab meeting throughout the Summer or Fall Semester
My lab has an open meeting at noon on Monday. Email me if you are interested in joining and we can answer questions you may have about joining the DPT structures.
Step 4: Submit Application
The application is submitted through the following form and is due November 20, 2025. The application consists of the following parts, including a CV, cover letter, letter of support form, and completion of the first few steps of a systematic literature review (see materials here).
